Let’s start with the obvious shall we? I’ve not been updating nearly as often as I said I would and to be quite honest, while I’m not much on excuses, the reality is there hasn’t been time. I wish I had much more time to do all the things I promised but that isn’t going to happen…I’m also not complaining that I don’t have the time, actually what I don’t have is great time management.
In the past few weeks I’ve been putting more work in to The Zombie Pixel granted mostly with streaming gameplay of a game that’s old enough that nobody cares anymore, my point is that I haven’t found the right mix between the two, between streaming and Project Aonair. I do keep trying although it’s obvious I’ve failed miserably in that endeavor but part of being creative (at least in my mind) is being able to accept failures and not only learn from them but how not to repeat them…unless they result in awesomeness in which case I don’t think it qualifies as a failure anymore.
Babbling aside there is something I do have to address and it deals with the lack of progress thus far. As I sat to begin writing book one of the Neek’O Trilogy I almost immediately hit a roadblock, the one thing I needed to have planned out I hadn’t even considered and that dear friends is location. You see recently I sat down to begin re-reading one of my favorite books or rather favorite trilogies, The Icewind Dale Trilogy, and within the prologue and first chapter or two R.A.Salvatore paints such a vivid picture of where the series takes place as sat back to reflect on my own writing and realized that is what I was missing. Now my intent has never, and will never be to copy another book, another author, another anything…though to be fair that thought process has been damn near impossible and it’s part of what has delayed this as long as it has already, but I had known how I wanted to begin and for the life of me I’m not sure how I hadn’t considered location into any of this.
With all of this being said, my immediate goal is to flesh out the setting of the opening, it really needs to be addressed and in some cases created and most of all it needs names. To put things in perspective, I once had an instructor tell me that a story I had written was beautiful but it was very clearly written by a high school student and seeing as it’s sixteen years since I’ve been in high school I think it’s high time my writing started reflecting that.
So there you have it, you see for the most part why I’ve gotten nothing done and see where I plan to go. I would love to say I will stay on top of things and be more consistent but all I can really promise right now is that I’ll try my absolute best to do better than I have.
